Is your Google Pixel not showing up when you connect it to your Windows 11 PC? In this guide (and in the video above), I show you why your phone is not recognized and the easiest way to fix it and stop it from happening again. I use a Pixel 6 Pro, but the same steps work for older and newer Pixel phones.
The cause can be hardware: a faulty cable or a damaged USB port. It can also be software: the right driver is missing on the PC, or the wrong one is installed. My method is easy and you don’t need to enable USB debugging. You only install the correct driver so Windows can use the phone’s MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) connection. The problem is not limited to Pixel phones, so this method can help with other smartphones too.

Why Your Pixel Is Not Recognized by Windows 11
These are the most common reasons a Google Pixel doesn’t connect to a PC:
- USB cable issues: A faulty cable or a charge-only cable prevents a proper connection. Not all USB cables can transfer data; some are only meant for charging.
- Wrong connection mode: Your phone may be set to charging only. You need to switch it to a data transfer mode such as File transfer (MTP).
- Outdated or missing drivers: Windows 11 may not recognize your device if the right drivers are missing or outdated.
- USB port problems: The USB port on your PC may be damaged or not working. Trying a different port often helps.
- Software conflicts: Some apps or services running on your PC can interfere with the connection.
- Settings and permissions: Your phone’s USB settings or permissions may need to be changed to allow data transfer.
- Operating system updates: Windows 11 and Android updates can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
- Dirt or damage: Dust or physical damage in the phone’s USB port can block a proper connection.
Fixing these common issues usually solves the problem and lets your Google Pixel connect to your PC normally. If a different cable and USB port don’t help, the driver fix below is the solution.

How to Fix Google Pixel Not Recognized by Windows 11
Step 1: Connect the Phone and Choose File Transfer
- Connect your Pixel to the computer with a USB data cable. I use a USB-C to USB-C cable because my PC has a USB-C port.
- On the phone, tap the USB notification and choose File transfer.
- Open File Explorer. If your Pixel doesn’t appear in the list, continue with Step 2.
Step 2: Add the Google USB Driver in Device Manager
- Right-click This PC, click Show more options and select Manage. Computer Management opens.
- Click Device Manager and expand Portable Devices.
- Click the Action menu and select Add drivers.
- Click Browse, select the usb_driver folder you extracted and continue.
- Windows shows the Google Android device drivers. Click Install.
- Wait until Windows says the driver was installed successfully.
Step 3: Restart the Phone and Update the MTP Driver
- Restart your phone and make sure it is still connected to the computer.
- In Device Manager, your phone now appears as MTP USB Device. Right-click it and select Update driver.
- Click Browse my computer for drivers, then Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- If you see two drivers for the phone, select the first one and install it. If it doesn’t work, repeat these steps and choose the other one.
- Disconnect the phone and connect it again.
Step 4: Copy Your Files
On the phone, choose File transfer again. Your Pixel now appears in File Explorer, and you can copy and paste your photos and files.
Note: If the driver is missing, Windows can’t show the phone at all. Always install the Google USB Driver first (Step 2), then pick the MTP driver (Step 3). If it still doesn’t work, restart the phone and repeat both steps.
