Update (October 2026): Microsoft has ended support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). Starting March 5, 2025, Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore are no longer available in the Microsoft Store, so the official method in this 2023 guide no longer works for new installations. If you still want Android apps, and even the Google Play Store, on Windows 11, follow my newer guide: how to get Android apps on Windows 11 after the WSA end of life.
Android apps on Windows 11 after WSA (new guide)
This is how the official method worked in 2023: Windows 11 ran Android apps with the Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore.
In this article
Method 1: Install Android apps with the Amazon Appstore
- Check if your PC is compatible. Not every Windows 11 PC could run Android apps. Open Settings > System > About to see your processor and installed RAM. Microsoft recommended 16 GB of RAM and an SSD, an x64 or ARM64 processor, and the Virtual Machine Platform feature turned on. To check virtualization, open Task Manager > Performance > CPU and look for Virtualization: Enabled.
- Turn on virtualization. If virtualization is disabled, enable it in your BIOS or UEFI settings first. Then open the Start menu, search for Turn Windows features on or off, tick Virtual Machine Platform and click OK. Your PC will restart.
- Install the Amazon Appstore. The Amazon Appstore was the only official way to install Android apps on Windows 11. Open the Microsoft Store, search for Amazon Appstore, click Install and follow the instructions.
- Sign in to the Amazon Appstore. When the Amazon Appstore is installed, sign in with your Amazon account. If you do not have one, you can create it for free.
- Search for and install Android apps. In the Amazon Appstore, search for apps just like on an Android phone and click Install.
- Run Android apps. Installed Android apps appear in the Start menu next to your Windows apps. Open them from there or from their desktop icon.
Windows Subsystem for Android™
You could also download the WSA package itself. This download is on Uptodown, a third-party site, because Microsoft no longer offers WSA:
The WSATools APK Installer app (for installing APK files) has been removed from the Microsoft Store, so I removed its download button.
Method 2: Install WSA with store.rg-adguard.net
- Go to store.rg-adguard.net. This website (the Microsoft Store Generation Project) gets the packages from Microsoft’s servers, the same servers the Microsoft Store uses to install apps on your PC, so the files themselves come from Microsoft.
- Copy the following link and paste it into the URL box: www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/windows-subsystem-for-android/9p3395vx91nr
Because Microsoft removed WSA from the Microsoft Store in March 2025, this method may no longer find the package. The newer guide linked at the top of this post shows a method that still works.
