How to Merge SRT Subtitles with Video

In this video tutorial, I show you how to merge subtitles with a video and make them one file. I have tried many programs, and Apowersoft Video Converter Studio worked best and fastest for me. It also lets you change how the subtitles look, which is very useful.

Many videos and movies have subtitles so that more viewers can understand the content, especially when the video is in another language. Some music videos have them too, so people can sing along while reading the lyrics. SRT is one of the most common subtitle formats, and you can create an SRT file with any text editor, like Notepad. If you already have an SRT file that you want to merge with your MP4 video, follow the steps below.

Merge SRT and MP4 with Apowersoft Video Converter Studio

Apowersoft Video Converter Studio makes it very easy to add subtitles to videos. It is paid software, but you can test the free trial version before you decide to spend your hard-earned money on it. It supports SRT, ASS, SSA and many other subtitle formats. You can also change the position of the subtitles in the video (bottom, middle or top), as well as their transparency, font, size, color, style and effects.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open the program and click the Add Files button to import your MP4 video.
  2. Click the Edit button to open the edit page.
  3. Open the Subtitle tab. Here you find all the subtitle settings.
  4. Click the Add subtitle file button and go to the folder where your SRT file is saved.
  5. Click the T button to change the font, font size, color, style and effect of the subtitles.
  6. Set the Transparency and Position of the subtitle lines.

  7. Click OK, then click the Convert button on the main screen to save the MP4 video with its subtitles.

The program merges the subtitles into the video in a short time. Besides merging subtitles, it converts videos to many formats. Its built-in video editor can trim, crop and rotate videos, adjust volume, contrast, brightness and saturation, and add effects and watermarks. It also has a screen recorder for video and audio, and it can make a video from your pictures. In short, it is an all-in-one tool.

Tip: if you only need the subtitles while watching, and not burned into the video, give the SRT file exactly the same name as the video (for example movie.mp4 and movie.srt) and keep both files in the same folder. Players like VLC then load the subtitles automatically.
