In April 2020, I tried to post my video from YouTube directly to my Facebook page through the share pop-up, and I got this error:
User opted out of platform: The action attempted is disallowed, because the user has opted out of Facebook platform.
I made this video to help you understand where the problem is, so you don’t waste time looking for a problem with your website or your Facebook page. I did my research, and the best place to get reliable information was the Facebook developer team. I show you the bug report in the video, and the link is below.

When Does the Error Appear?
Here is what I found in my tests:
- Sharing from YouTube, a blog or a website to a Facebook Page you manage failed with this error.
- Sharing the same video to your personal profile (News Feed or story) still worked.
So it was not a problem with your website, with YouTube or with your Page. It was a Facebook bug.
Facebook Confirmed the Bug
Don’t worry: you could not fix this problem yourself. You had to wait for Facebook to fix it. Here is the bug report on the Facebook developers site (you need to be logged in to Facebook to open it):
https://developers.facebook.com/support/bugs/3865708246805112/
On the bug page there is an option to subscribe, so you are notified when there are updates to the bug report.
The Facebook team’s answer
Jonathan Chang from the Facebook team replied:
“Hi Pat, Thanks for reaching out and sorry you’re having this issue. We’ve managed to reproduce this problem. We’re assigning this to an engineering team for further investigation. Best, Jonathan”
Workaround: Post Directly on Your Facebook Page
While the bug was active, this worked for me:
- Copy the link of your video or blog post.
- Open Facebook and go to the Page you manage.
- Create a new post on the Page as you normally do and paste the link.
- Publish the post.
In other words: don’t share from your website or YouTube with the pop-up, but post on your Page inside Facebook.
Still Seeing This Error Today?
The bug above was from 2020. The same message also appears when the Apps, websites and games setting is turned off in your Facebook account, because then apps and websites cannot interact with your Facebook account. To check it, open Settings & privacy > Settings > Apps and websites, find Apps, websites and games and turn it on. Facebook changes its menus often, so the names may be slightly different on your account.
