Are you running Windows 10 on an older PC and want Windows 11 without command prompts or registry tweaks? You’re in the right place. In this guide, I walk you through the easiest updated method to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, using a beginner-friendly tool called FlyBy11.
Update (October 2026): FlyBy11 has been renamed. The developer now calls the classic tool Flyby11 Classic (still available, but no longer actively developed) and its successor Flyoobe. The old download link opens the new Flyoobe page, so I added a direct button for Flyby11 Classic below. Also note that Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro stopped getting updates on October 13, 2026. For the newest version, see How to Install Windows 11 26H2 on Unsupported PC.

Why Upgrade to Windows 11?
Windows 11 brings a modern design, improved security, faster performance and better support for new software and hardware. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, so Windows 10 no longer gets security updates. If your PC can handle Windows 11, even unofficially, this guide helps you upgrade smoothly.
PC Used in This Tutorial
- Intel Core i7-7700K (7th gen, officially unsupported)
- 32 GB RAM
- SSD storage (recommended for a faster upgrade)
- Windows 10 Pro (latest version)
This CPU is not on Microsoft’s supported list (Windows 11 officially supports Intel 8th gen and newer), but I show you how to get past that limit.
Step 1: Check If Your PC Is Compatible
Download the PC Health Check app from Microsoft:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11#pchealthcheck
Use it to see whether your PC passes the basic requirements. Most unsupported PCs fail because of:
- A CPU that is not on the supported list
- TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot not enabled
If your PC fails because of the CPU, don’t worry: FlyBy11 bypasses that check.
Step 2: Download the FlyBy11 Tool
FlyBy11 is CMD-free: it has a simple user interface. Download it only from the developer’s official GitHub page.
Download FlyBy11 Download Flyby11 Classic (direct ZIP)
Warning: The developer warns that fake websites and GitHub accounts copy the Flyoobe name. Download only from github.com/builtbybel.
- Extract the
.zipfile with the built-in Windows extractor or with 7-Zip. - Inside the folder, right-click
Flyby11.exeand choose Run as administrator.
If Windows shows a warning, click More info > Run anyway.
Step 3: Check Your CPU for SSE4.2 and POPCNT
Before you continue, make sure your CPU supports the SSE4.2 and POPCNT instructions. They are required for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, and no tool can bypass them.
✅ Supported:
- Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 from the first generation (2008 to 2010) and newer
- AMD FX series and newer
Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors stop at SSE4.1. If your CPU only supports SSE4.1 or lacks POPCNT, you cannot upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 or newer. Version 23H2 is the last one that runs on these CPUs: see How to Run Windows 11 on Older PCs Without SSE 4.2 & POPCNT Support.
Step 4: Download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft
Go to the official Microsoft site:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
- Scroll down to Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO).
- Select Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO).
- Choose the same language as your current Windows. To check it, run this command in Command Prompt:
DISM /Online /Get-Intl
Even if you don’t like using CMD, you can simply copy and paste this line from my site. Then pick the matching language on Microsoft’s page:
en-US: choose English (United States)en-GB: choose English International (this is the UK English version)- Any other language: choose that same language
Tip: You can download security updates manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Step 5: Start the Upgrade
When the ISO is ready:
- Open FlyBy11.
- Drag the ISO into the tool, or click Select ISO.
- Wait while it mounts the ISO.
- Keep the Download Drivers option enabled (recommended).
- Follow the installation steps.
If you don’t see the Keep files and apps option, your ISO language doesn’t match your current Windows language. Download the ISO again in the right language (Step 4).
Note: During the upgrade, setup may say Windows Server, for example in app compatibility messages. This is normal: FlyBy11 runs the Windows Server version of setup to skip the hardware checks, and the result is a normal Windows 11 installation.
Step 6: Fix Common Installation Problems
If setup gets stuck or fails:
- Unplug all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse.
- Disconnect cameras, external drives, hubs and similar devices.
- Delete your temporary files: press Windows + R, type the line below, press Enter and delete everything in the folder that opens (skip files that are in use).

If it still fails, try my other video tutorials linked below the video or in this post.
💡 Fix Boot Issues: Enable AHCI Mode in BIOS
If your PC has trouble booting, check that the storage controller runs in AHCI mode in your BIOS:
- Restart your PC and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing
DEL,F2orF10when the system starts). - Go to the Advanced, Storage or SATA Configuration section (it depends on your motherboard).
- Find the setting called SATA Mode or Storage Mode.
- Change the value from IDE or RAID to AHCI.
- Save and exit the BIOS.
After enabling AHCI, your system should boot into Windows 11 without problems.
Warning: If Windows is already installed in IDE or RAID mode, switching to AHCI can stop it from starting (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE). To switch safely, first run bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal in an administrator Command Prompt, change the BIOS setting, let Windows start in Safe Mode, then run bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot and restart. If Windows still doesn’t start, set the BIOS back to the old value.
How to Convert MBR to GPT Using Command Prompt
Windows 11 officially needs UEFI boot, and UEFI needs a GPT disk. If your system disk still uses MBR, you can convert it without losing data:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator. Click Start, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Check that the disk can be converted. If validation succeeds, go to the next step.
mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOS - Convert the disk to GPT.
mbr2gpt /convert /allowFullOS
📝 What Happens Next?
Restart the PC, enter the BIOS and switch the boot mode from Legacy (CSM) to UEFI. If you don’t, Windows will not start from the converted disk. I show this in How to Prepare Your PC to Support Windows 11.
Step 7: Verify the Upgrade
When the upgrade is complete:
- Go to Settings > System > About.
- You should see “Windows 11 Pro / 24H2”.
- Windows still reports the CPU as unsupported, but updates work.
You will get:
- ✅ Security updates
- ✅ Driver updates
- ❌ Major upgrades (like 25H2) won’t install through Windows Update. You need to repeat this method.
Extra Notes
- Windows 11 exists only in 64-bit. You cannot upgrade from 32-bit Windows 10.
- Minimum RAM: 4 GB.
- If your PC is very old (Core 2 Duo and similar), don’t waste time: upgrade your hardware or use Windows 10 LTSC.
