Windows 11 25H2 Has Been Confirmed by Microsoft – Here’s What to Expect

In April 2025, clear proof of Windows 11 version 25H2 appeared inside Windows itself. In this article (and in the video above), I show where the reference was found, what it says about build 26200, and what we expected from the update.

Update (October 2026): The proof was right. Microsoft released Windows 11 25H2 on September 30, 2025 as a small enablement package for 24H2, using build 26200, exactly as the DLL suggested. Home and Pro editions of 25H2 get updates until October 12, 2027. The next version, Windows 11 26H2 (build 26300), followed on September 29, 2026. Windows 11 25H2: What We Knew in April 2025

Windows 11 25H2 was expected to start rolling out in September or October, like Windows 11 24H2. Based on new references verified by Windows Latest, 25H2 was indeed coming, and it was much more likely to be a minor release than a big update like the Windows 11 2024 Update.

Ever since Microsoft started releasing build 26200 in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program, people wondered whether these builds belonged to 25H2. Until then, Microsoft had not mentioned version 25H2 officially, and the version label still said 24H2.

The Proof: 25H2 Found in AppraiserRes.dll

A discovery by @XenoPanther on X (formerly Twitter) cleared this up. Inside the latest Dev Channel build, Xeno found a reference to 25H2 in the system file appraiserres.dll. This file is part of Windows Setup: you find it in the sources folder when you extract or mount a Windows ISO, or when Windows Update downloads a new version.

What’s the Connection to Build 26200?

The references inside appraiserres.dll link Windows 11 25H2 directly to build 26200. One entry stands out:

26200=FT_ALL_CompatIndicatorHelper_WritingGE25H2

This strongly suggested that build 26200 would be the foundation of the 25H2 update, as a continuation of the Germanium platform introduced with 24H2.

I opened appraiserres.dll myself to check whether GE25H2 is really mentioned in the latest Dev Channel builds. Here is the proof:

appraiserres.dll in Notepad++ with BuildIsGE25H2OrGreater entries that require host OS build 26200
The BuildIsGE25H2 entries check for host OS build 26200.
appraiserres.dll opened in Notepad++ showing GE25H2 next to GE24H2, NI23H2, NI22H2 and CO21H2
GE25H2 sits next to the older release names GE24H2, NI23H2, NI22H2 and CO21H2.

What Does GE25H2 Mean?

GE is short for Germanium, Microsoft’s internal name for the platform that Windows 11 24H2 is built on. You can see the pattern in the screenshot above: CO21H2 is Cobalt (Windows 11 21H2), NI22H2 and NI23H2 are Nickel (22H2 and 23H2), and GE24H2 is Germanium (24H2). In simple terms, GE25H2 means “Windows 11 25H2 on the Germanium platform”: the same base as 24H2, with a new version number.

What We Expected from 25H2

A Smoother Transition for Windows 10 Users

Microsoft also seemed to time this update with the October 14, 2025 end of support for Windows 10. By keeping 25H2 small, Microsoft could focus on a smooth and stable upgrade path for people still running Windows 10.

This mattered most for organizations and everyday users who soon had to upgrade to stay secure and supported.

No Big New Features

No major new features had been announced for 25H2. Because it was likely to ship as an enablement package, we expected improvements to performance and UI smoothness, and maybe refinements to the AI features introduced in 24H2.

Still No Official Microsoft Blog Confirmation

As usual, Microsoft had not explicitly announced “Windows 11 25H2” at that point. Its Insider blog posts for build 26200 only mentioned vague “behind-the-scenes platform changes”.

This gave Microsoft flexibility and avoided firm promises about version numbers, which can change during internal testing.

Why It Matters

With Windows 10 support ending on October 14, 2025, Windows 11 25H2 could be the final push for the remaining Windows 10 users to switch. If it stayed lightweight and stable, it would be a safe landing place for millions of late upgraders.
